Whats the difference between christian and catholics?

someone told me the only difference is that Christians are all nice and forgiving, the kind of "god loves all his children" type, while Catholics are the crazy, angry, "everyone who does not believe will BURN!!!" kinda guys. But I doubt this is the only difference.
