Separation of Religion?

Do people want separation of CHURCH and STATE or just CHRISTIAN CHURCH(es) and STATE? I ask this cause people harp separation of church and state on Homosexual marriages and then you have the whole muslim community problems. They want to invoke SHARIA law which is in clear violation of separation of church and state and some of regular laws or get out of crime by saying it is part of their religious faith. So if we separate CHURCH and state then their is no religion exclusion when a person commits a crime such as a muslim man raping his wife or other religions, or when a man "disciplines his children" in a way you disagree with or the law disagrees with. It sounds like some are trying to have their cake and cookies too.
