How do you know if a product is cool toned or warm toned?

Im trying to get a few lipsticks for me and im cool toned but i dont know what to look for. Theres so many nudes, mauves and pinks and i dont want to waste money on the wrong ones for me. How can you tell what is cool toned and warm toned? Also if anyone knows of any mauve, nude and pink lipsticks from drugstores, please leave the brand and name of them. E.g. Red revival by maybelline
